After battle with cancer, an emotional return to golf for Jarrod Lyle

First tee jitters?

Life has a way of putting golf in perspective.

Witness Australian Tour pro Jarrod Lyle, who showed few nerves but displayed plenty of emotion at this return to competitive golf at this week’s Australian Masters after battling back from cancer for a second time.

Lyle, who was first diagnosed with acute myleoid leukemia at age 17, earned his PGA Tour card in 2007 but learned in 2012 that his disease had returned.

That bad news came days before Lyle’s wife, Briony, gave birth to the couple’s first child. The cancer forced Lyle into a 14-month layoff. But after chemotherapy and a bone-marrow transplant, Lyle says tests have shown no sign of leukemia.

And now he’s back competing.
