Hospitality Heroes Golf Tournament Set for Nov. 25

On Monday, Nov. 25 the 6th Annual Hospitality Heroes golf tournament will take place at Patriots Point Golf Links in Mount Pleasant. This annual event raises funds for local charity Hospitality Heroes, which was established in 2008 to help employees in the hospitality industry who are experiencing hardships such as injuries or family emergencies. This year the focus of the tournament is on Keith Purdy who has been in the hospitality industry in Charleston for many years. He recently suffered a massive stroke and will be taking on some big medical bills. “The hospitality industry is not only a huge industry in Charleston, but it’s a huge family and when one of our own needs help we come together,” says Steve Carroll, owner of Water Dog Grill. The rain or shine tournament format is a 4-Man Captain’s Choice with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

Hospitality Heroes Fund was established to assist Charleston-area hospitality employees who incur financial burden due to medical or family emergencies. When a serious injury occurs, or an individual or one of their children experiences a prolonged hospital stay, the hospitality industry continues to thrive, but in many instances, it is tremendously difficult for the employee to continue living their life as they knew it. The Hospitality Heroes Fund is designed to help bridge the financial gap and allow our colleagues to get back on their feet.

Tiger Woods' Annual Charity Golf Tournament Leaving Thousand Oaks

Tiger Woods and his annual charity event will say goodbye to their longtime home at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks after this year.

The World Challenge will switch to the Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla., where Woods used to live.

"We've enjoyed 15 amazing years in Southern California, which helped us launch our flagship Tiger Woods Learning Center," he said in a statement posted on his website. "It serves as a lasting tribute to the local fans that have supported us year after year."

The 2013 Northwestern Mutual World Challenge is scheduled for Dec. 2-8 and will feature an 18-man field including Graeme McDowell, Jason Dufner and 14 of the top 20 players in the world rankings.

Woods said that after this year's event, he is "looking forward to this next phase of the World Challenge and what it can bring to Florida."

Isleworth is owned by the Tavistock Group, which sponsors the Tavistock Cup, an annual 36-hole event.

"We believe this new partnership with the World Challenge will allow us to expand our presence and investment in the game," said Andy Odenbach, vice president of sports ventures at Tavistock Group.

Woods said that since its inception the World Challenge has raised more than $25 million for his foundation, which offers scholarship programs, supports learning centers with after-school curriculum to help youth focus on career opportunities and runs summer camps.

Conn. Golf Tournament Donates $1.2M to Charity

— Organizers of the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Connecticut say this past summer's event generated more than $1.2 million for charity.
The June PGA tournament donates 100 percent of its net proceeds.

Tournament Director Nathan Grube this week announced the tournament has distributed $1,253,000 to 180 charities throughout the region. That is the most given out since Travelers became title sponsor in 2007.

Tournament champion Ken Duke made a personal donation of $25,000.

Grube says it's the fifth straight year his organization has been able to give out more than $1 million.

One of the biggest beneficiaries is the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, a summer camp for children with life-threatening illnesses that was founded by actor Paul Newman.
